Wayanad – Green Paradise

It had been a while since the family had set out on a holiday. We wondered which would be an ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet accessible and within comfortable driving limits. Yes we decided on God’s Own Country. Where in Kerala, was the next question. Wayanad – The Land of Paddy fields and Spices, located in the North East of Kerala(700-1200m above sea level) was the closest to Bangalore(280Kms). Thus we set out early on a Friday morning, just as monsoon was to set in(End of May – Early June, 2008). The lush green scenic drive through the Bandipur forest was beautiful and breathtaking.

After researching the internet, enquiring with friends, colleagues and peers we zeroed in on a home stay: Ente Veedu. The homestay was just about decent unlike the presentation on their website. For more information on this particular home stay, read my review: Experience at Ente Veedu

The pepper and rubber plantations across the home stay were a sight to view and visit. We picked up a few spices like Pepper and herbs that turn water Pink. We did not do much of the siteseeing tour except a waterfall or so. It was a realxed long weekend in the green paradise, that helped ease out the stress built due to long work hours.

Suggested route:
Bangalore -> Bidadi -> Ramanagaram -> Channapatna -> Maddur -> Mandya -> Srirangapatna -> Mysore -> Nanjangud -> Gundlupet -> Sultan Battery -> Kalpetta

Hope to go back to Wayanad, someday!
